The gifted

I have heard and seen many instances of where people who had "gifts" no longer had them after brain trauma. I wonder what effect the injury has, and is there a specific spot in the brain that allows us to tap into these "gifts". What if they aren't "gifts" but everyone one has them, but our brain just hasn't triggered them into working for some reason.
